Fun in the Sunshine State

home for the Tuesday night Gay Skate crowd. And if you're really into zooming around a rink showing off your wares on a quad of tiny wheels there's Gayskate on a Monday night at Surfers.

THE DEEP NORTH, Queensland, Alliance Hotel, home away from so called because of the supposed redneck mentality which gives it many similarities to America's conservative Deep South. But a gerrymandered premier and a reactionary political system does not mean that most of the people of the tropical climes are anything but friendly. Indeed, northerners tend to be very hot blooded when they see a new face from down south.

And for mixed times there's The Beat, the Majestic Hotel, or Tony's. And for tasty morsels, not just to put in your mouth, but to eat as well, try The Terminus Restaurant. Down in Surfers, apart from the beaches, there's Flashez for a thumping good time from 8pm to 3am or if you just want to steam that booze out of your system there's Jungle's male sauna.

First thing to do when you hit Brisbane is put up a copy of the chatty and informative fortnightly, Scene, which is brimful of information on where to go and what and who to do. David Wheatley does a bang up job with the paper and it's indispensible for the out and abouter.

If you've stopped over in Noosa or Surfers on your way north you'll probably already be satiated with their sandhill hospitality, where you probably met and enjoyed that guy you've been avoiding in the bar

But for those who are lost and alone or just plain shy try the CAMP clubrooms for contacts. They're at 379 George Street, Brisbane.

If you're planning a trip to the north and you want to make contact with some of the very fine groups up there, drop a line to any of the

in Sydney. But head straight (pardon the expression) for Zuloo's, one of the boppiest places north of the border. Their parties have to be experienced to be believed. Appearances by Sydney's Planet Sluts, their very own Mr Zuloo's 1983 and other things extraordinaire have transformed this bar of the Hacienda Hotel into paradise.

If you like something a little less exotic and a little more down-toearth and concretey there's always the iron-clad Alliance Disco in the

groups listed in our Fine Print directory, they'll be only too glad to help.

But for general interest there's so much to recommend in the pristine beauty of Queensland, starting with the beaches where almost everyone looks like Kip Noll or one of the many American video stars. And you'll find they're almost as approachable. All you need is a friendly smile and an open manner and you'll win your way into their hearts.
